Interactive Metronome® (IM)

Interactive Metronome is a computer-based, neuro-motor therapy program designed to help improve motor planning, sequencing, and processing. IM has been shown to improve attention, coordination and timing, and provides a non-invasive way to stimulate learning and development.   We use IM in our Maximum Achievement Program℠ (MAP)  for assessment of a patient's condition as well as for a tool for treatment.

Backed by nearly a decade of research and development, IM strengthens mind/muscle connections through a series of training exercises that are physically interactive to keep patients engaged.   Patients are challenged to synchronize foot and hand motions to a computer-generated rhythmic beat.  Using IM, we can objectively measure a patient's ability to stay on the “beat."   Based on this measurement, we can identify timing deficiencies and their severity.  By improving the mind/muscle connections, it helps our patients to plan better, become more organized, focused and coordinated.

A double blind, placebo controlled study found those undergoing IM training showed significant improvements in the following areas:
  • Attention/Focus
  • Motor Control/Coordination
  • Language Processing
  • Reading Fluency
  • Control of Aggression
Other studies have shown significant correlation between IM and academic achievement in mathematics, language and reading.
